Hi Y’all, welcome to There Goes the Neighborhood Homestead. I’m Shellee, a wife to an overwhelmingly supportive husband named Matt and a mom to 4 precious children; 2 girls and 2 boys. I love all things natural, sewing, research and most of all, making memories with my crazy family. We are trying to live a more natural, simple adventurous life.
I have struggled with health issues since the age of 17. After getting married, we tried starting a family. Several miscarriages and fertility issues didn’t stop us, and we now have 4 children. My youngest daughter was diagnosed with SPD when I was pregnant with my 4th child. After lots of prayer, we chose not to treat her with medication. I was determined to find another way to treat my daughter. Through lots of research, and a friend to inspire us, we radically changed the way we did life; from the foods we ate, to the things allowed in our home, even to the air we breathe. Fortunately, in this life style change, I was able to find the cause to all my health issues. I was diagnosed with an autoimmune thyroid disease. All this new learning and changing was VERY OVERWHELMING, especially with a new baby that came with his own challenges. Through this process, my family found that living this new way was much more expensive on a tight budget. This left us wanting to ditch the “neighborhood” way of life and start a farm to grow and raise our own food. In the summer of 2014, we sold our home in hopes to buy land in the outer Austin, Texas area. But the Lord had a better idea! After taking a much needed vacation to Tennessee, we fell in love and knew within a few months that this is where the Lord wanted us to call home. It has been 3 years since that trip and we are still waiting. It has been a process of maturing, pruning, challenges, changes and a few curves in the road. We still have a dream for that farm. But until then, we are tired of being cramped in small apartment where the kids have no freedom to run and play. So we have decided to downsize our things, pack up and hit the road for many adventures.
Living this life style hasn’t been easy, but I have gained a lot more than I have ever had to give up. If you’re looking for natural alternatives to bring healthy simplicity to your life and family, come follow us on this journey to find our way back to our roots!
